Alps Trips
Each summer, generally in the last week or so of July and the first week or two of August, the club organises a two week trip
to the European Alps. These events are invariably based at a local camp–site although most of the major summits in the area will require
a very early start from an Alpine hut or bivvy far above the valley. Our most popular venues tend to be in Switzerland, where there are a good number
of high summits at all grades, especially around Zermatt, Saas Grund and the Bernese Oberland. In recent years we have also based ourselves at
Kandersteg, Arolla, Courmayeur and Chamonix, as well as the somewhat less frequented areas of the Ecrins, Bregaglia and Austria.
Leslie Stephen famously described the Alps as the Playground of Europe – and for many climbing in the Alps represents the ultimate mountain experience:
the CRMC provides excellent opportunities to experience Alpine mountaineering at all grades from the easiest to some of the more taxing.
We don’t offer guiding but do provide subsidised training in the UK and seek to encourage suitably experienced folk into this wonderful playground.....
This gallery provides a flavour of some of the routes we have enjoyed in recent years as well as general pictures of the fabulous
alpine scenery.
