Winter Climbing and Mountaineering
Winter climbing has a special place in the heart of British mountaineering: it carries a sense of adventure apparently far beyond
anything the humble altitudes of our native hills might suggest. The club organises several events each winter in Scotland, in the hope of succeeding in
being there to coincide with real winter – at classic venues including the CIC hut beneath the cliffs of Ben Nevis and Lagangarbh at the head
of Glencoe. We also normally arrange a full week in the Highlands over the February half–term, usually in the Cairngorms, Torridon or other
similar location.
As a club we recognise that many members, while attracted to the idea of doing a little more in the hills in winter, are put off by the
apparent risks of this exhilarating activity – so most years we arrange for winter skills training to get interested members started.
These events are always very popular – have a browse through these pictures to see why (and if your boat starts to float – get in touch...)!
