March 3rd – 10th 2018
WINTER WEEK SCOTLAND: Fort William
Activites: Winter Mountaineering / Climbing
Cost: £82.00 plus food
Contact: Richard Pomroy
We have booked one of the 8 bed self-catering apartments bunkhouses at Calluna. Fort William offers easy access to Ben Nevis and Aonach Mor for climbing and mountaineering as well as the Mamores and other hills so there is plenty to do. If there is sufficient demand we will try and book another apartment but this is not guaranteed. If you want to come please book early. The Scottish mountains and weather can be very demanding in winter so you need to have crampons and ice axe and appropriate skills in their use if you are going to venture into the ice and snow on the hills.
4th – 7th May 2018 (May Bank Holiday)
AGM weekend: Lake District: St John’s in the Vale, near Keswick
Activities: Multi-activity Walking, Climbing, Mountain Biking
Accommodation: Outdoor Centre
Cost: £61.00 including 2 evening meals
Contact: Richard Pomroy
There is a good variety of things to do at this location near Keswick, with plenty of mountains and lakes within easy reach. Last time we were here we had snow on the hills, in other years we have had T shirt and shorts weather. On Saturday evening we will hold the club’s Annual General Meeting, if there is something that you want to raise please contact Richard. At the AGM the post of Chairperson, Treasurer and Events Coordinator are elected. We currently do not have an events coordinator so if you think you could fill this or any other roles please speak to Richard. This is a family-friendly event.
Sat 19th – Fri 25th May 2018 (6 nights)
Scottish Summer Hill Walking: Newtonmore, Spey Valley
Activities: Walking, Mountain Biking
Accommodation: Private hostel for 10 people (www.highlandhostel.co.uk)
Cost: £128.00 plus food
Contact: Peter Langley
This will be based at the privately run Newtonmore hostel in the Spey Valley. This is a nice purpose-built hostel in the village and the owner will give us sole use which requires a minimum of eight bookings at the price above to cover the cost.
The event has been organised to provide an opportunity for members who would like to go to Scotland but have no or little experience of the additional challenges of the highlands. We have chosen this location because its height above sea level means that the amount of height gain required to reach the summits of for example, the Drummochter munros, is not that great. The Monadh Liath hills are also within easy reach and further afield are the northern Cairngorms. More experienced members are welcome who may want to visit Loch Etricht and the remote hills at its end. There is also the option of mountain biking for example on the old road over Corrieyairack to Fort Augustus in the Great Glen or at the centre at Laggan.
Please note that Spring Bank Holiday is Monday 28th May and is after the end of this event.
PLEASE Book by 10 April as we have to confirm numbers and make final payment soon after that date.
