HILL WALKING We regularly hold events in the Lake District, Wales, and Scotland, with routes to accommodate varying levels of fitness from relative beginners to Welsh Fourteen hopefuls. We have several Munro Compleaters among our members. A WhatsApp group enables members to plan walks with each other.
CLIMBING Climbing events vary from planned weekends in various locations to spontaneous meets organised through our climbers WhatsApp group – these tend to be in the Peak District. We climb both trad and sport, and are happy to set up top ropes for those who prefer to climb in that style.
SCRAMBLING There are normally plenty of opportunities to get your hands on rock in the course of a more ambitious mountain day. One of our founder members is currently updating the Lake District scrambling guide!
WINTER EVENTS One of our most long established events is a winter week in Scotland, normally around February half term. Winter hill-walking and climbing are more serious and so we do require people to have reasonable fitness and some summer hill walking experience, and beginners need to do a winter skills training course.
MOUNTAIN BIKING Many of our events offer the opportunity to get out on two wheels and there are plenty of hills (both summer and winter) where a bike can shorten a long walk in!
SOCIAL EVENTS Our calendar includes an Annual Dinner, a Midsummer party, and Christmas and New Year events. We still get out during the day but back in time for evening festivities . . .
BEGINNERS AND INSTRUCTION The club does not normally offer professional instruction although on some events this can be booked if there is a demand for it. We do have a number of very experienced walkers and climbers who are more than willing to share their skills with beginners. |
